Information for Lawyers
At Burgess Paluch our goal is to assist you to find the right opportunity. We provide straightforward, up-to-the-minute career advice and access to opportunities within a wide variety of firms and corporates. We cover roles for all levels of lawyers, from equity partners to junior lawyers across Australia and overseas and in a range of different sized organizations.
Our consultants understand how crucial, time-consuming and stressful it can be to make a career move. After all, we’ve lived through it with our lawyers thousands of times. Our industry specific experience, understanding and accessibility will help make your next move cleaner and more successful. The fact that the consultant you will be dealing with is a former lawyer will mean you will be talking to a professional who understands what it means to practice law.
At Burgess Paluch we’re proud to say that a large percentage of our lawyers come personally referred to us by other lawyers we have assisted, and we’d like to keep it that way. Our desire to continue to expand our database of quality lawyers is your guarantee that we will do everything we can to assist you.
We hope that you will find our consultants to be professional, creative, switched-on and understanding. We guarantee that they will be accessible – consultants answer their own phones and we give all our lawyers our mobile phone numbers for anything urgent. We know how busy you are and recognise that you will not always be available to speak to us during office hours. We also guarantee that we will be responsive and quick to act. Our employers demand it and we offer the same level of service to our lawyers.
At Burgess Paluch we also recognise that while providing access to the best and broadest opportunities in the market is crucial to you, it’s only half the job. Getting you the offer you want now and ensuring it fits into your long-term career goals is a must. To assist you in achieving your long term goals we take the time to get to know you from day one, provide long-term career plans and career counseling, assist you with advice on preparing a CV, explain the positives and negatives of each role, guide you through the interview process and assist you with advice on salary negotiation.
On top of our direct recruitment services we are happy to speak to you more broadly about career options, achieving a work/life balance, career counseling, dealing with difficult work situations, building client base and more. We do this without charge and consider it our opportunity to give something back to the profession.
Who We Recruit For
We recruit for national, top-tier, mid-tier and boutique firms as well as a range of corporates. Our clients include a wide variety of practice styles and we cover a surprisingly large proportion of the Australian and international market. We recruit both permanent and contract lawyers. We recruit in all capital cities on mainland Australia as well as in most overseas jurisdictions that Australians choose to travel to.
Our Recruitment Process
After obtaining your initial CV or telephone call we will arrange an informal meeting, perhaps over a coffee, to get to know you better and to discuss the opportunity or opportunities we have available that might interest you. There’s no obligation on your part at that stage and we like to think that it will mark the beginning of a successful partnership. We usually like to see a draft CV and your academics prior to meeting with you so that we can prepare for the meeting. We won’t act on your CV at that point or without your instructions and we understand that maintaining your confidentiality is paramount.
In the initial meeting we’ll take down key information we need to assist you and will tell you all we can about the roles and the organisations you are considering. We’ll give you honest and straight-up advice about your likely prospects of success and will also give you salary and other advice if you want it. We will point out any changes we recommend to your CV and make sure that you are in a position to make an informed decision about whether you want to proceed. Once we have your final CV and your go ahead on the role or roles you are interested in, we forward your CV together with a brief summary of your experience to the employers you have nominated. Unlike other recruiters, we won’t pass your CV to anyone you haven’t authorised, send out anonymous versions of your CV with the names removed, make spurious claims about your ability or put you forward for roles that don’t meet your long-term career goals. What we will do is make sure that your CV lands on the desk of the right person at the right time for the roles that are right for you.
To get the most out of us you’ll need to be honest and open about what you are looking for, what you can and can’t do, and what you think you will need to make your career move a success for you. Hopefully we will open your mind up to a range of possible options and give you clear, thoughtful and creative advice.
