- Multiple options across Brisbane
- Broad mix of work for high-end client base
- Competitve salaries and clear progression pathways
Multiple options. One: an old Queensland firm, a principal people stay for, real mentoring. The other: a practice opening — remote first, then hybrid
Two commercial litigation jobs in Brisbane. Different firms. Same standard: you run files, not photocopies.
I am fillingmultiple roles at once. My clients want commercial litigators with 2 to 8 years’ post-admission experience.
The work is disputes that businesses actually fight: contracts, corporations, property, insolvency-adjacent claims, and the interlocutory grind that decides who blinks first.
Apply once.
Say which shape of practice you want.
Option 1 — Established Queensland firm
One of the state’s oldest practices. You will work with a principal who is, without the usual recruiter fog, someone people describe as decent — available, clear, and interested in whether you get better.
The mix is genuine: a spread of commercial files rather than one product line. Mentoring is part of how the team is run, not an annual review slide. Growth is possible because the work is there and the principal will put you on it.
Option 2 — New Brisbane practice, path to partner
A firm expanding into Brisbane from Melbourne. You start remote. The role then moves to hybrid once the office is in rhythm. This is the role with a stated pathway to partnership. You will help build the Brisbane disputes practice, not inherit a waiting list.
If you want equity in your sights and can live with a desk that begins at home, this is the one.
What you will do in these roles?
- Run commercial disputes from letter of demand through mediation and trial preparation
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, advices and correspondence that a client can act on
- Appear at directions, applications and conferences
- Take the file far enough that a principal is reviewing judgment, not rewriting the first page
- Keep the client informed in English, with a recommendation attached
Who this is for?
2 to 8 years’ PAE in commercial litigation, or a disputes practice that is already commercial in substance. You can manage a file, write a tight advice, and stand up in court without needing a script for every mention.
What is on the table?
- Competitive salary
- Seat 1: mentoring that happens on the file; a mix of work; a principal worth working for
- Seat 2: remote then hybrid; a pathway to partner in a practice that is still being built
- Proper support in both — you will not be the entire disputes department on day one
