Workskil Australia is a national not-for-profit and charitable organisation, with nearly 40 proud years of supporting Australians to achieve sustained economic and social self-reliance. We do this by providing a range of employment community services across New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria. At any given time, our 800 staff support over 55,000 customers.
Our General Counsel role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Counsel will provide in-house legal services for Workskil Australia. You will ensure ongoing legal compliance across the operations of Workskil Australia and ensure all dealings are conducted in a legally compliant manner that appropriately protect the interests of Workskil Australia. This role will contribute to the operations of the Board and Executive. As governance and accountability are critical to our success, you will make a positive and active contribution to enhancing both the operational and support functions of the organisation.
Our General Counsel provides strategic legal advice in a range of areas as required including regulatory compliance, commercial law, tender preparation, industrial law, work health and safety, commercial leasing and privacy. You will also oversee the keeping of all relevant statutory corporate records and, if so appointed by the Board perform the role of company secretary. To be successful in this role your appetite and ability to communicate with staff at all levels will be crucial.
The person we seek
The successful applicant will likely have a minimum of nine years of post-admission experience including experience in an in-house role. They will have experience in commercial law in areas such as contracts, compliance, corporate governance, leasing, industrial relations, governmental funding arrangements, intellectual property, administrative law, and privacy/FOI. As this position is likely to sit on the Executive, Executive experience or experience dealing with Boards will be advantageous.
