This Role
This is a replacement role and will allow the right senior lawyer to drive a vibrant and commercially astute legal function within the business, as you manage a team of lawyers, contract managers, and paralegals. Adding value to the business by providing both legal strategy and hands-on advice, the General Counsel will enjoy working with and supporting the key decision makers of the business, and be an active member of the Commercial Leadership Team. Reporting into Global, the GC will have a dotted line into the Australian Managing Director.
Work will include high level general commercial and corporate, acquisitions, and joint-ventures, as well as some complex litigation. The General Counsel’s role will be to develop, implement and maintain legal processes, documents and staff training, and provide practical legal advice to assist the business to meet its goals. The GC will also play the role of Integrity Officer and will deal with commercial and regulatory issues both here and overseas.
The Lawyers we Seek
This role will suit senior lawyers/partners with current experience gained in quality in-house roles in a senior position, either managing a complete business unit or business, and providing hands-on legal advice and contractual support to senior executives. They will enjoy contributing to a business commercially, and be willing to jump into a role that will definitely be hands-on, but also strategic in nature. To be considered, you will be an intelligent and well-rounded lawyer with large firm training, and around 10-22 years of experience as a guide. You will be confident but not arrogant, willing to listen, learn and contribute to the business and uphold its values for the long term.
