SA Level In-House Role – Litigation Focus

The Business

Our client is a successful and long established litigation funder, and a serious player in the Australian funding market, with a significant portfolio of funded matters and a pipeline of potential claims. With a focus not only on profit, but also delivering successful outcomes to the clients they fund, it offers a unique perspective in the funding market. While it can and does fund extremely large and complex commercial disputes, it also offers services to disadvantaged groups, corporate clients, and those impacted by insolvent companies. 

The Role

As a bright, well trained and commercially minded senior lawyer, this role will appeal to you as it will engage you intellectually, as you use your legal skills to assess matters and prepare them for funding and run matters via external counsel to ensure their success. It will also keep you well within the law and afford you the chance to use your contacts and connections in the profession and assist them achieve funding for their disputes when required. Offering the best of both worlds between working in a law firm, and the hard slog that can entail, but allowing you the chance to formulate strategy and take on the strategic aspects of running a matter, considering the financial and ethical objectives and include plenty of decision making and influencing. 

Causes of action supported by the business are extremely broad and varied. They include insolvency, commercial litigation, IP, class actions, insurance recoveries and employment law. Matters are frequently large, rarely minor, and often complex and hard fought. Barristers and firms engaged in the disputes are first rate, and other lawyers in the business have strong backgrounds. 

Who it will appeal to

This role will appeal to 5-10 PAE lawyers who enjoy engaging with others, like a challenge and who focus on results. It will allow you to use not only your well-formed legal skills, but also your highly developed interpersonal skills to full effect.

This is a relatively autonomous role suited to a senior lawyer with 5-10+ years of post-admission experience gained in a major firm doing commercial litigation.
