Our client is a successful and long established litigation funder, and a serious player in the Australian funding market, with a significant portfolio of funded matters and a pipeline of potential claims. With a focus not only on profit, but also delivering successful outcomes to the clients they fund, it offers a unique perspective in the funding market. While it can and does fund extremely large and complex commercial disputes, it also offers services to disadvantaged groups, corporate clients, and those impacted by insolvent companies.
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) works closely with both the CEO and CFO. You will lead a national team of high performing senior disputes lawyers (Investment Managers). It is a significant opportunity for a senior lawyer already employed in litigation funding to take the next step and advance their career.
The CIO will work with the team of Investment Managers to assess matters, prepare them for funding, and run matters via external counsel to ensure their success. You will assist with managing risk, have the opportunity to formulate strategy and take on the strategic aspects of running matters, considering the financial and ethical objectives and include plenty of decision making and influencing.
Causes of action supported by the business are extremely broad and varied. They include insolvency, commercial litigation, IP, class actions, insurance recoveries and employment law. Matters are frequently large, rarely minor, and often complex and hard fought. Barristers and firms engaged in the disputes are first rate, and other lawyers in the business typically have top-tier credentials.
