Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this newly available executive role sits at the heart of the Epic Energy’s legal, governance, compliance and corporate risk management agenda during an exciting new phase in their business.
As General Counsel and Company Secretary, you will partner closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board, helping guide commercial decision making while ensuring the highest standards of governance, compliance and enterprise risk management.
About the role
Based in Adelaide, you will provide strategic leadership across Legal, Governance, Regulatory Affairs and Enterprise Risk while serving as Company Secretary to the Board.
As a trusted adviser, you will balance commercial objectives with sound legal judgement, supporting major business decisions across corporate governance, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, growth and operations, managing the organisations approach and appetite for risks and opportunities as they arise. Beyond legal leadership, you will play an influential executive role, fostering a culture of integrity, accountability and continuous improvement while helping position the business for long-term success.
The Scope of the Role
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will lead Epic Energy’s legal, governance and risk agenda, ensuring the business maintains robust governance and operates confidently within a complex regulatory environment.
You will oversee Epic Energy’s legal function, managing external legal advisers while providing commercially focused advice across corporate, commercial and operational matters. Working collaboratively across the business, you will strengthen governance frameworks, oversee legal and risk management frameworks, monitor legislative developments and develop practical solutions that enable business objectives to be achieved.
As Company Secretary, you will support the effectiveness of the Board and its Committees through exemplary governance practices, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, coordinating Board processes and maintaining high standards of corporate governance.
The role also provides executive oversight of regulatory affairs, enterprise risk and internal assurance. You will maintain productive relationships with regulators and key stakeholders, oversee regulatory compliance, lead Epic Energy’s enterprise risk framework and contribute to defining the organisation’s risk appetite. Working as part of the Executive Leadership Team, you will also contribute to organisational strategy, growth, operations, crisis management and the continued development of a values driven, high performing culture.
About You
You are an accomplished senior lawyer with the judgement, commercial acumen and executive presence to operate confidently at Board and Executive level. With 12+ years’ experience gained in-house and/or private practice, you bring broad expertise across commercial law, corporate governance, regulatory compliance and enterprise risk, ideally within energy, infrastructure, utilities or another highly regulated industry.
You are recognised for building trusted relationships, providing commercially pragmatic advice and influencing senior stakeholders through credibility and sound judgement. Experience supporting Boards, managing external legal advisers and working within complex regulatory environments will be highly regarded.
